Register Contest Details: Rules

REGISTRATION:

The Competitors are required to register for the competition prior to submitting their entries. In order to complete registration, competitors must submit a registration fee. The registration fee is $100 USD for professionals and $50 USD for students. The registration period for this competition is from April 15, 2009 to August 15, 2009, while the submission deadline is September 15, 2009.
Registration fee includes two entry tickets to the Awards Ceremony. (Location and time to be determined.)

Registration fees can be paid ONLY on line by credit or debit card. All payments are final; registered Competitors who do not submit an entry will not be refunded.

Payment will occur through FreeGreen.com (processed by PayPal). Upon completion of online registration and payment, Competitors will receive a Contest Entry ID Number, automatically generated by the payment system. See the Submission section of this website for additional details.

If you do not have access to the internet and would like to participate or if you have any questions, please contact the Design Competition Committee at . The Design Competition Committee will make every reasonable effort, in its sole discretion to accommodate you.

ELIGIBILITY:

The competition is open to all interested parties throughout the world, regardless of age (you must be at least 18 years old), discipline, and professional status. Students are welcome and encouraged to enter. Entrants may submit work independently or as a group or through the instructor.
The following are exceptions to eligibility: The firms, professional partners and immediate family members of the Competition jurors.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:

All submissions must be received via email by 5:00 pm EST Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

PRIZES:

The jury will select a first, second and third place winner. The Competition jury may also elect to award multiple honorable mention finalists. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

First Prize:

  • $10,000
  • Necessary assistance from FreeGreen Inc. in the completion of construction documents
  • Full House Plan Representation with credit to winning entrants on the FreeGreen.com website
  • Publishing - to be determined
  • The right to be built as one of the homes in the Greensburg GreenTown Chain of Eco-Homes Project

Two Runners-Up:

  • $1,000
  • Necessary assistance from FreeGreen Inc. in the completion of construction documents
  • Full House Plan Representation with credit to winning entrants on the FreeGreen.com website
  • The right to be built as one of the homes in the Greensburg GreenTown Chain of Eco-Homes Project

For individuals and teams, only those persons whose names have been listed on the registration form will be acknowledged or awarded prizes. For teams, cash prizes will be awarded only to the Teamleader (indicated on the registration form). For firms or studios, awards will be issued to the entire firm or studio.

Acceptance of a prize shall constitute and signify a winner's consent to the use of his/her name, address (city and state only), voice and/or photograph for commercial, advertising and promotional purposes without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.

Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. do not guarantee the construction of any of competition's winning designs. Winning entries may be subject to public review and presentation to the City of Greensburg, Kansas in anticipation of the next planning phase.
The Jury's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into after the announcement of the winners. Competition proceeds will be split between Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc.

ANONYMITY:

Submissions shall have no name or mark that in any way identify the project or competitor other than the last four digit Contest Entry ID Number assigned to the competitor upon completion of registration.

The Jury will not receive any information regarding the authorship of entries submitted.

Competitors must not communicate with the jury about the competition or their entries in any way prior to the official announcement of winners. Any Competitor or juror found in violation of this rule will be disqualified immediately.

Jurors are required to excuse themselves from discussion or voting on a particular entry in the event that they can identify the Competitor(s) who submitted all or part of any entry.

OWNERSHIP:

Any and all materials and ideas submitted as part of a competition entry, including but not limited to drawings, renderings, photographs, photocopies, digital files, ideas and derivative works, shall become the sole and exclusive property of Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. shall own and have the sole and exclusive right to use, copy, distribute, translate, modify, display and prepare derivative works of entries, as well as the right to authorize such uses by others. Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. shall have the right to obtain and to hold in its own name, the copyrights, registrations or other such protection as may be appropriate to the subject matter, and any extensions and renewals thereof.

If an entry is not selected as a winner, ownership of the entry shall revert to the applicable submitting Competitor, except that all Competitors shall grant to Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc.a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free, exclusive license to use and/or reproduce the entry in any way, in any medium now known or hereafter devised, for any purpose, including but not limited to publication, exhibition, and archive Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. will make reasonable efforts to credit Competitors at all times.

By submitting an entry, Competitors certify that the materials and ideas submitted to the Competition are original and have not been previously published. Competitors additionally certify that neither their entry, nor the use thereof, violates, infringes or otherwise conflicts with any copyright, trademark or property right of any third party.

Competitors acknowledge that Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. and its partners may exhibit all Competition entries in an online gallery, and a selection of Competition entries may be chosen for physical exhibition and/or public display following the announcement of the winners. Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. will make reasonable efforts to notify Competitors of any public exhibition or display entries through correspondence with the primary contact listed on the PayPal Registration Form.

PRESENTATION BOARDS:

Competitors shall submit two digital files for 24” x 36” formatted electronic PDF boards, labeled A and B, that illustrate their project. Board A will be on the left and Board B will be on the right when presented to the jury. Each board must include the entrant's four digit ENTRY ID number in the upper right hand corner in plain black text on a white background or white text on black background.
Contestants will be allowed to upload an “Overflow” PDF labeled C which may hold Additional drawings , diagrams, and text to further illustrate proposals. Scale and placement of these drawings is at the discretion of each Competitor.
Entries become property of Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc. and will not be returned.

REQUIRED DRAWINGS:

All board submissions must include the following:

  • One plan of proposed design of the single-family dwelling
  • Two perspective elevation views of the single family dwelling located on the site
  • Representation of the chosen wall system application

REQUIRED TEXT:

It is up to the contestant how much text they wish to place onto their Presentation Boards and\or “Overflow” PDF.
For the purposes of describing their entry to the public, contestants must fill out the Entry Description field on the online submission form. This description must be 1,000 characters or less.

OTHER REQUIRED INFORMATION:

Competition entrants will be required to fill out all mandatory fields associated with the online contest submission form. This information will include, but is not limited to, information such as: separate jpg. formatted images from the required boards, square footage of the proposed dwelling, depth and width, targeted construction cost range, levels, bedrooms, bathrooms, green features, disaster resistant features, etc.

FILE FORMAT/SIZE:

Files must be uploaded in the following formats:
Two 24” X 36” formatted PDF files, 300 dpi, 10MB maximum size for each file
(primary files for printing boards, and for public download)

Six 960 X 960 pixel JPEG files created from images used on the aforementioned boards, 200 dpi, 1.5MB maximum size for each file (files for online exhibition and publication)

For PDF files, graphics should be set to 300 dpi/ppi. If printing to PDF from Illustrator, for example, choose Effect -> Document Raster Effects Settings -> Resolution -> Other: 300 ppi. Note that to meet the file size requirements you may have to adjust your PDF software compression settings.

FILE NAMING:

All files must be named with the CONTEST ENTRY ID NUMBER you receive when you submit your registration, followed by an underscore and A, B etc. For example, the files for registrant 0000 would be called:

  • Board A: 0000_A.pdf
  • Board B: 0000_B.pdf
  • Overflow C: 000_C.pdf
  • Other Files: 0000_image.jpg, 0000.jpg

ENTRY SUBMISSION:

All information and files must be submitted via the online form. The web address will given at the submission start date. You may add files and text as necessary prior to the submission deadline; however, all entries must be submitted (via the online entry form) by the final deadline. Any files submitted after this deadline will be disqualified and deleted without being viewed. Submissions may not be delivered in person, by mail, or by e-mail.

DISPUTES:

Disputes or questions of interpretation arising out of the Competition Rules and Regulations or Registration will be considered by the Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc., who will render a final determination.

The jury, by a majority vote, possesses the sole authority and responsibility to recommend winners at the end of the Competition. Any disputes will be resolved by the Jury Chair in consultation with Greensburg GreenTown and FreeGreen Inc.

By registering to enter the Competition, entrants affirm that they have read and accepted these Rules and Regulations.
