Architecture that endures is green. A lasting, environmentally responsible home must be three things: delightful, adaptable, and fundamentally energy efficient. To create a delightful space, we employ a modern yet timeless aesthetic that draws on universally admired qualities: ample natural light, thoughtful organization, a close indoor-outdoor relationship, and a strong connection between all spaces in the home. To create abiding adaptability, we provide openness on the first floor and flexibility on the second, where spaces can be opened or walled for privacy to accommodate changing needs. To create lasting energy efficiency, we integrate meticulous, airtight detailing, extensive insulation—exploiting the full potential of the HIB wall system—and passive solar heating and cooling, realized through large windows with deep overhangs and sliding shutters. Instead of relying only on technology to create energy, we reduce heat gain and loss, making our home permanently energy efficient.
