Hello, we are ZeroEnergy Design (ZED), the residential design and engineering firm that worked on the Glazer's house design.   ZED is a firm based out of Charlestown, MA which has worked on numerous green, energy efficient, and zero energy projects here in MA, and across the nation.  What makes ZED a unique firm is the fact that we employ Architectural Designers, Mechanical Engineers, and Financial Analysts.  We use then use these resources to apply a multi-acumen approach to every project we take.  This allows us to quantify the costs and benefits of both macro (passive solar or orientation) and micro (insulation levels, HVAC efficiency levels) green building decisions. 

When the Glazer's first approached us they had some pretty specific ideas for their green home, but didn't know how to put them together or accomplish their energy goals.  ZED worked with the Glazer's to develop an energy efficient house plan that also met their family's every day needs.  Unlike many clients we work with (who desire a modern looking homes) the Glazer's sought a balance of traditional aesthetics and high performance building materials and systems.  With this requirement in place ZED energy design was able to focus less on the superficial design aspects of the Glazers home (taking precedence from existing building styles), and focus acutely on the areas of design and engineering that effect the performance of the Glazer House.  ZED will be posting a set of entries to this blog documenting specific areas of the design and\or systems that we worked on, and how we addressed green design in each.  Please stay tuned for those posts as we are working out the details now.  We look forward to letting you see some of the details behind our work here, and to seeing the Glazer Residence once it is completed.
