Hello Everyone,
If you are reading this blog right now you have probably just learned about it through our newsletter. That said, we want to make sure that all viewers understand the background and purpose of this FreeGreen micro-blog .
The concept for this section of our site started when a FreeGreen user approached us to see if we would work with him on a semi-custom home design project. Since custom design is not an activitiy that FreeGreen currently does, we turned this user over to our sister, custom design firm, Zero Energy Design (ZED). Through a number of meetings together, we all came up with the idea that this client would work with ZED (with a little FreeGreen help) to develop thier design. Then FreeGreen would work with the client and some of our vendor partners to help spec products into thier home. All the while this user has agreed to track thier building process, stepping all of us through the decisions, challenges, and excitment of builing a new Green Home. At the end of it all, FreeGreen will post this house design (for free of course) into our Builder Product Line.
This project will be located in Needham, MA (United States), and includes the tear down of an existing home on thier land (not many greefield lots in MA). Again this is a real project will real constraints, so it will be quite interesting to follow along. We at FreeGreen are very excited to see how this expirenment turns out, and hope that these posts help other users go through thier own processes. As you probably guess the image above is a rendering of what the final home will look like, but please see below and follow along for many construction photos and the personal story of the Glazer family's project.
Thanks,
Dave Wax, CEO FreeGreen
