The first floor farming is mostly done and they are getting ready to put on the second floor deck this afternoon. If you notice the dark yellow beams, these are engineered structural lumber. Termed laminated veneer lumber or (LVL), these beams have consistent dimensions and density. They are manufactured by using fast-growing, small-diameter trees and the manufacturing process allows more of the log (up to 80%) to end up as product. LVL lumber is very consistent and stable and is also straighter and stronger, pound-for-pound than traditional lumber. This allows for much longer spans in your design without support underneath. On average, advanced framing using structural wood products uses about 30% less lumber.
