Here Come The Tiny Houses

That's right, the Tiny Houses are coming.  For those of you have not heard of the Tiny House movement, it is a very interesting trend in which homeowners are looking to take on DIY type projects to downsize their living space, create a guest house or office, or put up shelter on that vacation spot they always wanted.  In these economic times the Tiny House has become a popular trend with baby boomers who can no longer afford their dream second home, but still have the dream lot on which to build.  FreeGreen is excited to bring you these homes, and as you would expect we will be designing them to be zero energy.

Along with the Traditional and Rustic Tiny Houses above, FreeGreen will be releasing a modern Tiny House as well.  These plans should be released on Thursday 7/23.  The Modern Ranch will be put on hold until these are out.

I am interested in building a Multiphase Green house. (Phase 1 would be minimal living, Phase 2 would add something, phase 3 ad more, but in the end, it would not look like it was build in phases). Do you have something like this? What would it take to make this a priority?

this also is what I am interested in. Ultimately saving monthly rental costs..by living on my lot, while building . Was thinking maybe the garage first? Like James having something in distinct phases would be ideal. Secondly, Tiny houses are good, like the Cabin House plan, but I am wondering about resale value. They would need to be designed so that future additions are part of the plan.

I too am considering this same phased-build strategy. I bought my land with the intent of constructing a 4800sf Zero-Energy home. In researching construction loans recently, I've found that home values in Arizona have now dropped so much that it will cost much more to build than it would be worth when complete, so the Banks won't finance it.

Consequently, I'm thinking about building it in stages that make sense. I'd like to live in the smaller, more affordable first stage, until the market turns around enough to add the final stages, but I want the finished project to look like a single original design.

Great news!
The small house movement is especially relevant now, but it has already been firmly established in several European countries, such as Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, etc.
Some remarkable examples can also be found in San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver, dating back to the Depression-era.
Hopefully the new wave of designs will be modernist and uncluttered, with lots of light and fresh air.
Looking forward to FreeGreen's treatment.
