New Green Product Search Functionality

Hello Everyone,

This will be the first of many blog posts today as there are just so many update.  The first one that we would like to cover is the new Product Search functionality that will be going live on Monday, May 26th.    This new functionality is in direct response to a ton of users feedback that we have been getting.  Basically, a number of you have said "We love you site, but really we are just looking for the best XXX product.  To see the products today we have to search through your home plans.  We would like to search by product and then potentially see it in a home plan."  Well, at FreeGreen your wish is our command.

The new Products Page has much functionality see below for a short list of the major pieces:

• Product listing pages that show all products specified into FreeGreen plans
• Products can be sorted by status (Featured, Newest, Most Popular) as well as category (appliances, flooring, building materials, etc.).  Also once inside a product category (e.g. Appliances) products can be sorted by sub-category
• Users can drill down on products to individual product pages which show:
  • The FreeGreen Opinion: This is a custom review written for each product by FreeGreen Staff members.  Not all products will have one, but the important ones will.  We are working on getting all of these up overtime.
  • Request a Brochure:  For companies that FreeGreen has an advertising relationship with, users can request to contact a specific vendor to learn more about their product
  • Add To My Favorites:  Users can add any product to their FreeGreen My Favorites page for later reference
  • Go To Vendor Site:  Allow the user to go to the vendor site and learn more about (or purchase) the product
  • View In House Plans:  This is a very exciting feature which allows users to quickly jump to a selection of house plans that contains the product in which they are interested.  We refer to this as "reverse search" as you can now literally search house plans by product.

We hope that these new features meets all of the needs that you have expressed, and we look forward to hearing feedback on it.  In the future (over the summer) we expect to expand the functionality of these product pages to allow users to leave product reviews and have even more interaction with our site.
